CAPTURING AND VALORISATION OF CO2 THROUGH PHOTOBIOREAC-TORS TO DRIVE THE GREEN TRANSITION (CAPCO2)

CAPCO2 aims to demonstrate a breakthrough concept for Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU). We will enable the efficient removal of CO2 through photosynthesizing microalgae while generat-ing biomass and bio-oil with a highly modular and scalable solution.

Project description

CAPCO2 aims to demonstrate a breakthrough concept for Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU).The con-sortium covers the value chain from 1) applying new academic-based knowledge on optimal process design (DTU) to 2) high-class system architects (Power 2 Climate Change), 3) commercial CCU first-mover (AL-GIECEL) 4) an international end-user (NOVOZYMES) and 5) a professional project management team to streamline all workflows KNOWLEDGE HUB ZEALAND). Our common vision is to demonstrate a worldclass solution for minimizing the CO2 footprint of the production of products.
Our solution is targeting small and mid-size industries considered too small for P2X projects focusing on e.g., e-fuels. We will enable the efficient removal of CO2 through photosynthesizing microalgae while gen-erating biomass and bio-oil towards the biodiesel, biofertilizer, bioplastics, cosmetics, aquaculture and cos-metics segments as well as other side streams such as heat and oxygen. The solution is highly modular and scalable, allowing cost neutrality (short-term) and profitability (long-term) to the clients implementing the technology through the sharing of the revenue generated from all the income streams. There is a great commercial opportunity for our solution based on: i) a market anchored in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; ii) a growing demand for sustainable bioproducts; iii) new methods and iiii) CO2 prices and the voluntary carbon market.
