IEA EBC Annex 89: Måder at implementere netto nul-emissionsbygninger på
Annex 89 aims to contribute to local, national and global efforts to accelerate and scale-up the transition of the building and real estate sector towards net-zero whole-life carbon (NetZ-WLC) outcomes by supporting the key stakeholders and decision-makers in developing and implementing effective Paris-goal compatible schemes and solutions.
IEA EBC Annex 89 focuses on the pathways and actions needed by various stakeholders to implement net-zero whole life carbon (NetZ-WLC) emissions from buildings in policy and practice. This means considering both embodied and operational carbon emissions across all stages of the built asset life cycle to achieve the overarching goal of the Paris Agreement by aiming climate neutrality by 2050 latest.
The work program is divided into five synergistic subtasks with the following objectives:
- Subtask 1 – developing guidelines on establishing whole life carbon targets for the building and real estate sector and identifying critical carbon reduction pathways and actions;
- Subtask 2 – establishing Paris-goal compatible assessment frameworks and evaluating the suitability of assessment methods to achieve NetZ-WLC;
- Subtask 3 – mapping and assessing the relevance and effectiveness of a range of tools and instruments available to different stakeholders in their decision-making contexts/objective(s);
- Subtask 4 – understanding the conditions conducive for in-practice uptake and more effective implementation of context-based solutions by key stakeholders;
- Subtask 5 – ensuring engagement and knowledge exchange with diverse stakeholder groups and disseminating Annex 89 outputs that maximise implementation opportunities.
As a supplement to the above, the Danish participation aims to contribute to accelerate the national uptake of NetZ-WLC buildings.
