Deltagelse i IEA TCP AFC ExCO

The purpose of participation in the IEA TCP AFC ExCo as a delegate is to keep Danish stakeholders up dated on international developments with Fuel Cells and Power to X and facilitate Danish influence on future strategic decisions on the work carried out within the framework of the TCP AFC

Project description

The function of Executive Committees with IEA TCP (International energy Agency Technology Collaboration Platform) serves three main purposes:

• Inform the participating members about international developments within the field

• Approve work performed by the working groups (called tasks)

• Select and approve work content for proposed new tasks

In addition to these formal tasks the ExCo meetings also serve as very efficient vehicle for informal exchange of information, establishing new collaborations and visits to relevant ongoing projects. It is thus important to represent Danish stakeholder interests and disseminate the latest international tech nical as well as political trends within the field domestically. Denmark is world leading by far in deploying intermittent renewable wind and solar power sources. This creates a need for substantial Power to X capacities based on electrolysis and down stream syntheses. Due to significant investment in RDD as well as several domestic important technology providers, Denmark has thus a keen interest in keeping abreast of developments and influencing the work carried out within the framework of IEA TCP AFC. A somewhat overlooked strategic area is the reverse, namely X to Power. Although direct electrification of all sectors is the most efficient path there will be opportunities for deployment of highly efficient and emissions lean power generators in the form of different fuel cell-based generators. As an example, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for shipping, aviation and industry could be mentioned. Participation in the TCP AFC Exco is thus aligned with EUDP mission and strategy, more specifically the following points from the 2020-2030 strategy:

• More Green Electricity – and for more purposes (Fuel cells could be an additional element here)

•Energy efficiency (Both PtX and Fuel Cells could contribute)

• Heavy transport and large-scale Power-to-X

 • Heating and heat storage (Both PtX and Fuel Cells can deliver waste heat)
