Turbines are designed to change its direction as a change in the wind direction occurs, and partial wear occurs when the windmill actively yaws back and forth in a too narrow spectrum for a long time. It is our aim to develop solutions to this crucial problem within the service industry (windmills) in order to reduce the costs significantly.
A damaged yaw ring will have to be replaced. In order to preform that operation, the nacelle assembly has to be lifted with an external crane. As the damage often is centered among one of a few teeth (worm or broken), removing the entire yaw ring (3m with), simply calls for an alternative solution – reduction of cost and shortening the down time. At Grenaa Motorfabrik our aim is to develop solutions to crucial problems within the service industry (windmills) – methods, tools, procedures – and in this project we will develop a new solution for damaged yaw rings in order to reduce the costs significantly. By designing and preparing a segment of yaw ring matching the damage type of turbine to replace only the damaged part, the service provider will no longer need to dissemble the wind mill. The need for cranes, ships and other heavy logistics is eliminated
